company history
Rederij
Wadden Transport ("Wadden Transport Shipping") has established
its reputation for quality shipping during more than 20 years of continuous freight service in
the western Wadden Sea. The company's
regular service between the Dutch mainland port of Harlingen and the Wadden
Islands, predominantly Terschelling and Vlieland, fulfills a vital role in the
area's transport sector. The company's roots extend back to 1982, when Captain Fred Lakeman signed on as master of the coaster m.s.
Challenger. He soon bought out his partners and four years later Captain
Lakeman became sole owner of Rederij Wadden Transport.

The
coaster m.s. Challenger is 45 meters long with a beam of 7.5 meters.
Maximum load is 375 tons. She is outfitted with a 25 meter-ton Effer
marine crane and propelled by a 340 hp M.A.N. marine diesel.

In 2001 the company
expanded with the acquisition of the Ro-ro ferry m.s. Terschellinger Bank.
This 56 meter (184 foot) long vessel possesses a 5000 sq. foot asphalt cargo dek and has capacity for 40
passenger vehicles. The ferry's capabilities fulfill perfectly the demands of
today's transport sector, varying from moving construction materials
and heavy work machinery to transporting lighter objects such as passenger
vehicles, mobile homes, and agricultural equipment to and from the islands. The
Terschellinger Bank has been modified by the
addition of three separate loading ramps, over which cargo of up to 100 tons is driven or
ridden on board.

The m.s.
Terschellinger Bank is 56 meters long with a beam of 13 meters.
Maximum load 250 tons, she
can load 40 passenger vehicles or 6 freight truck + trailer
combinations. Propulsion occurs via two German SKL diesel motors,
each 625 h.p. and coupled to a Voigt-Schneider propeller. The
Voigt-Schneiders give the ferry her outstanding manoeverability.
