Each year Wadden
Transport Shipping moves large amounts of freight over
the Wadden Sea to and from the Dutch Wadden Islands. The company
offers a regular
line service with frequent departures to the islands Terschelling and Vlieland
from the mainland port of Harlingen. On request service to neighboring
islands or various mainland destinations (Amsterdam, Leeuwarden, etc.) is also
possible.
Wadden Transport uses the
Ro-ro ("Roll on, roll off") ferry Terschellinger
Bank, with her 5000 sq. foot cargo deck and triple loading ramps for
shipping a wide variety of goods and machinery: from freight trucks and trailers,
bulldozers, cranes and construction materials to special projects involving heavy/oversize
transports up to 100 tons per vehicle and 16 tons per axle weight. The m.s.
Challenger is a coaster equipped with a 25 meter-ton Effer marine
crane and is used for voor shipping bulk, building materials, sea containers, and
diverse machinery. Cargo for the islands is usually loaded in
Harlingen and decharged and deliverd to the work site on the island of
destination (and visa versa). The company works closely with construction site managers
and suppliers to insure that the delivery of materials and equipment for
projects on the islands occurs smoothly and
on schedule.
